Mr Sunday is entitled to their opinion and I respect that. And,there are lots of access routes into the area via existing roads. What the local residents in the area are opposed to is off road vehicle abuse. I have met many many OHV enthusiasts in the area who have no problem playing by the rules and staying on the roads, however...there are many with a "screw'em" attitude who dont.
There are plenty of places to ride off road in the designated areas at Johnson Valley of off th 15 between Victorville and Barstow. Juniper Flats is not suitable for off road use because of its diverse and sensitive nature. It is slowly recovering from the Willow Fire and this will take time. There is also a significant population of tortise in the area. I do not support "closing" any area of public land.
Wild and Senic status for USFS lands along Deep Creek would not close the area to people. It has been closed to vehicle traffic for over 20 years which means you have to walk in. Once in a while, somebody with a "screw'em" attitude gets in and chews up the mountains. The scars remain for years.
