Will this screw up the great hot springs in the Long Valley Caldera area near Mammoth?by mdskibum - California Hot Springs
Quotejobe In case others are curious, Avadog is a sky instructor near Reno. The biggist little city in the world and great for snow worshipers like her. So if ya wanna weather report... Mt.David and I never see each other without disscussing her because we miss her beautiful energy. Jobe, What is a sky instructor ? I think it's a 'ski instructor' I ski Tahoe a lot. Think Snow LOL.by mdskibum - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Nevada City, Grass Valley. Have relatives there. Mom been gone here 3 years and seems we are always flying west for skiing, HS, hiking, visits & Burning man.by mdskibum - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Quotemohave It would be interesting to retake the "Hot Springin' at DCHS in the 70's" photo with the same folks current day, 40 years later. I visited once in the 70's and sadly I've not been back since. A return is at the top of my to do list. Our move to Calif at the end of the year should help. I've been to many CA hot springs in the Eastern Sierra's, Saline, OR, & Coloraby mdskibum - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Quoteredtango Finally took the BR trail today. ... .... about half way out, we saw two people who were suffering from hypothermia, the woman to the point that she is unable to walk and fainting. They both were just wearing a t-shit and had no flash light.(it was already dark by the time we run into them). this is about 7pm. I ended up piggyback her out. what I learned today, is choose a traiby mdskibum - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Wizard says he dropped " Honda Civic keys attached to an alarm clicker" in the DCHS stream. The alarm clicker sounds like an electronic gadget that's ruined by water. My neighbor and I have both purchased Toyota Prius electronic key fobs for about $300 each. Mine was lost & hers was ruined in the washing machine. I usually copy rental car keys if I keep the car 2 weeks or mby mdskibum - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

I mapped a route from Sacramento to Kirkwood on rt 88 this past February. Then I followed the GPS instead. It took me up 50 past Placerville up the mountain to a right on "Emigrant Trail (alt rt 50)" where in winter there is usually 10 feet of snow. After 2 signs to turn around I came to this sign: Your GPS is Wrong, Turn Around Now I did & used paper maps. There was nby mdskibum - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

A bit puzzled here? After entering Bowen ranch at say 8 or 9pm you can drive to your camp site. Help would not be needed. We hope you aren't planning a night hike down to camp at the springs which would violate Forest Service regs and they do ticket. Help hauling stuff down the next morning is OK.by mdskibum - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
"Pirate's cove in SLO is one of the best nude beaches I've ever seen. Can't recommend it enough." I also agree. Little Beach on Maui & Pirates Cove are my 2 favorites. Neat locations & cool laid back people. Pirates Cove also happened to be my first nude beach visit 35 years ago. Glad to hear it's still there. Haven't been back in 20 years. Way overdue!by mdskibum - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I visited Uli Baba & the 100 thieves camp last year. It was packed (need bigger tent) to the point I could barely get a head in the door. People volunteer to be "slaves". They tell the audience what they want from you (food, water, etc) Then you bid for what ever services they'll do for you (washing dishes, building camp stuff etc). Offering the slave more perks, i needed.. Itby mdskibum - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Thanks Jobe Note it's most interesting that you found that most of the 38 tents were thru hikers doing the P.C.T. from the Mexico end & stopping while heading toward Canada. They're likely doing their thing (legally) - not just sneaking in for illegal camping for the hot springs only Too bad some of them appear to be leaving a lot of trash.by mdskibum - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

Thanks Hiker for reporting paved section of Rt 173 from Lake Arrowhead & Bradford Ridge trail was (2 weeks ago)/ and is usually open. I guess the information on Caltran's road conditions site is anything but clear. Hiker says they don't plow this road but sounds like it gets little snow and what little they get often melts in a day or 2. . Has anyone hiked to DCHS via the Bradford Ridge trail in the past 4 months? It may be CLOSED. Information on Caltrans road conditions site implies there is a long term closure on Rt 173 coming NorthWest from lake Arrowhead. Thanks Wizard, for great clarification. Sounds like closures (ongoing for several days) from recent snows. Hopefully gone soon.by mdskibum - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Is Route 173 open to the Bradford ridge parking area? Hoping to go that way in a month. I'm expecting the STEP ticket return/reissue program to be dead before its even announced. So few tickets are available that anyone who has an extra will sell it to friends, campmates . . or. be forced to be a scalper. Scalping on craigslist, stubhub, etc ( inflated prices or face value their choice) since burningman has locked out the normal low risk procedure to resell on eplaya. I've been following this closely. What a clusterf*ck. Theme camps, which are the heart of BurningMan, mostly only got 20% to 30% of the tickets their volunteers needs. Many aren't at critical mass and are canceling out or about to cancel. The organizers say they want to "make it right with these camps". I'm doubtful. Rick Not sure where this Pothole Dome is but in the fall (15 months ago) we were in Yosemite and walked to the top of Sentinel Dome. Sentinel Dome is out the Glacier Point road past the ski area & several miles before Glacier Point. Maybe the best viewpoint in the whole park! Since Sunday San Bernardino & Kern CO authorities have searched, without luck, in the desert east of US 395 toward the Cuddeback Dry Lake area for two Santa Barbara men. The families are quite worried & are wishing that volunteers join in the search even though the authorities are skeptical. Top Notch report. Excellent. I've been to all these Oregon hot springs inc Breitenbush which I stumbled on with no reservation after an awful night in a motel in nearby Detroit OR. They had space for us, yeah! (Logging trucks roaring by at 5 am.) 3 very accurate reports. I donated my bike (better than average shape- even washed in car wash next to the rental car) to the Reno Bike Project. Can't take it on plane to MD. The huge pile of bikes just seen is probably bikes not locked which get "borrowed" by tired walkers.
