DCR, you are probably referring to Montecito Hot Springs. It's up in the mountains behind Montecito just south of Santa Barbara. It used to be a grand and glorious resort in the 30s and 40's for Hollywood types. It was a beautiful building with many many concrete pools in beautiful wooden bathhouses behind the main house. The entire house and bathhouses all burnt to the ground during the 1964 Coyby Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I agree, Little Caliente in the mountains behind Santa Barbara. That's the upper pool. There is a another warm/hot pool just below it and the cool pool just below that. One of my favorite soaks. The upstream pools from Big Caliente are also real nice. The Anniversary Pool there was redone last year.by Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Rick, that picture is definitely one of the many hot springs on the Long Valley Calders near Mammoth. Looks a tad like Hilltop, maybe Pulky's.by Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

Gary and Jobe, probably a good idea to call the Microsoft 800 number. Jobe, what is that number?by Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Cloud on Title any matter appearing in the record of a title to real estate that on its face appears to reflect the existence of an outstanding CLAIM or ENCUMBRANCE that "if valid, would defeat or impair title, but that might be proven invalid by evidence outside the title record." The quote above is essentially why Cloud on Title means nothing because it can be proven invalid..by Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Note to Rick, that could be a problem with GIMP and Windows.. but I don't do Windoze unless I have to.. I'm all MAC;-) And luckily, it's not affected by the LoveSan worm, which has just devastated hundreds of Windoze computers!by Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

Uploading larger resolution photos to MSN Groups is fairly easy -select the "Don't resize" option when you do the upload. Of course, these larger resolution photos will quicky burn through the 3 mb of free photo space, but then again, you can do like Wizard and pay only $19.95/year to get more storage space. I think that also allows you multiple uploads rather than one photo at a time.by Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Many software programs have a feature that reduces the pixel size for quick view on the Web. If I want to post any of my high-resolution digital pics on the web, I use Adobe Photoshop Elements, Click the "Save for Web" button and voila - a nice , sharp image with a small size!! 2 0r 3 mb pics can easily be taken down to 50 or 60k. It's true the BLM cannot enforce all OHV access. They simply don't have the manpower (ie funding) to cover all the appropriate areas. Hikers, soakers etc should report OHV use in restricted areas to the BLM.by Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
In all my born days, I have never seen so much courtesy and so many "thank yous" than in the most recent posts. It's so refreshing to see us all heed a positive attitude.. Hopefully all mudslinging and personal attacks are behind us. DCV will be so much more effective without all this nasty name calling! That's a great poem Ron, I couldn't agree more. Certain visitors to this forum should really take this to heart ;-)by Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
It's unfortunate that just because someone doesn't like someone else, they have to make life hell for that person. OK, so for whatever reasons, some people don't like Wizard! So what... it's not a popularity contest! But that gives you no right to threaten Wizard or his family with intervention from CPS. I totally understand Wizard's decision not to associate with certain members of DCV -why woby Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Thanks Sycamore Laughing, thanks for your kind words regarding my posts...yes indeed, I do intend to meet DCV people one of these days, but like I've mentioned to Ron, my schedule and place in life right now does not allow me to slip away to Deep Creek as often as I historically have. That in no way lessens the love I have for the place, and I enjoy being an active participant in the Forum and Qby Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I fourth the vote behind Ron, Wizard and Gary. We should send the letter. I still have concerns regarding illegal use of the trail. I wish there was an additional way that the USFS could enforce the trail closure. We aall understand the brush cutting, reseeding and erosion control, but maybe some signage (Trail closed, please respect closure and use alternative route) or something else would be mby Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Thanks all, it's fun to wax philosophical on occasion about our favorite place. Hey you all, feel free to add any tenets or philosophies of your own that reflect your love for Deep Creek or regarding the forum..It's kind of a fun thing;-)by Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
MojaveGreen, several tenets form the basis for Forum discussion. They include: - Truth is in the eyes of the beholder - Truth is subject to interpretation - Truth is stranger than fiction - Katrina vs. Mike will NEVER be resolved - Perusal of forum comments guarantees vicarious pleasure - Rick is a saint for keeping the forum going - DCV is one of the best things to happen to Deep Creek - The Foby Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

It's unfortunate that Categorical Exemptions are being re-implemented. Although it allows for quicker response for removing bark beetle infested trees, it also circumvents the environmental documentation process and allows for rapid clear cutting. As usual, I will be communicating with my legislators on this critical issue.by Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I would sugggest these future topics for discussion: 1)Two wheel drive access in the vicinity of the Bowen Ranch as an alternative to driving through Bowen Ranch. 2) Continuing illegal use of the trail the USFS attempted to close 3) Update of the WEMO plan and if anyone attended the recent public hearingsby Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Az Mike, thanks for the update about the graffiti removal. It's a good thing that Ranger Brad supports it.by Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Let's hope that the high fire danger does not force closure of Deep Creek.by Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Its always a good idea to continue to coordinate with Ranger Brad regarding these types of issues. He should be made aware of the graffiti removal issues. I'm sure he would support it if he he were informed. Always keep in mind that both the BLM and USFS hold the "keys" to continuing public acess to Deep Creek. Whatever happened to the discussion of alternative trail access to DCHS siby Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
