I recall once seeing a graphic sign on a trail in AZ reminding folks to drink water and ingest salt (for electrolytes) or "you will die", at least the message conveyed on the sign with a crude cartoon of a hiker dying on the trail. Not a bad idea, as you say, some people don't have a clue.

A few weeks ago hiked up from the springs to Bowen with a cane. One of my physicians did get upset about it as it resulted in some deterioration around my knee (photo below after getting back to my vehicle), likely due to strain and sun, who knows. However any experienced hiker knows their own limits and their own body than anyone else, including doctors as medicine is still 50% science, 30% art and 20% witchcraft. Good to push your limits, just use common sense and listen to your body, especially when it comes to heat exhaustion.
