Wish San Onofre park leadership had the same vision . The nude beach was always packed with people, no lifeguard, and up from the nude beach, there would be like 15 people and several life guard chairs in summer. But while San O started with a gift from the military next door, it went to State Park not National Park leadership. Wish it were NP, then we wouldn't have to worry about this whole stupid killing of the nude beach there. Don't get me started...
My friend Jennifer and I considered going to Deep Creek today, but it was just too hot! So we decided to go to San Onofe today instead for some nude surfing. Good decision! There were great waves running 4-6 foot from a long period southern hemi swell. We got a lot of excellent barrels and its always so fun to surf totally naked. The scene at San Onofre is defintely mellower with respect to nudity. We laid nude on the beach after our first surf session and the ranger just waved and smiled at us! Such a difference from the last couple years with all the hassles and citations. However, the ranger did chew out two guys who were hitting golf balls into the ocean WTF??? And there does appear to be one remaining "No Nudity" sign on the bluff that hasn't been taken down yet or vandalized - however one of my friends who I refer to as "Pepito The Bandito" says he is going to cut the sign down!
My friend Brian said he was south of the boundary fence between the State beach and the Marine Beach this past Monday (yes he knows he shouldn't go south of the fence!) when he noticed that several of the Marines amphibious landing ships were just offshore. All of a sudden 6 or 7 of the ships of then turned to shore and came right up on the beach spaced equally apart. Brian kinda freaked, but just slowly walked back north to the state beach and in fact he waved to one of the Marines and he waved back, but overall, a bit disconcerting to be nude and be surrounded by amphibious tanks!
