Like San Onofre - the ironic/paradoxical connection between military lands and nude beaches on both coasts.
On the snack stand: Take everything I say with a grain of salt. I haven't been to Sandy Hook since the early 2000s, and the beach was hit hard by Sandy. I found some pictures online of the snack stand showing menu with hamburgers and fries and mahi steaks, hot dogs, you name it. With the lifeguards and the concessions, on a nude beach, it was pretty amazing and the way nude beaches should be! Found this, won't post much else as most of it is voyeuristic, at least what I'm finding:

Also found this link, which I post for the nice Sandy Hook paintings among the collection of great paintings, also hot springs!

"Most clothes optional beaches are out of the way places. My first impression of Sandy Hook was “Wow, lifeguards!.” I got the impression there were more people in the clothes optional section so you have to commend the Park Service for placing the resources where the users are. You also have to commend the Park Service for acknowledging the presence of a clothes optional beach. Looking back in time, men without shirts on the beach and the bikini were both once considered scandalous. This watercolor also appeared on the cover of N Magazine 14.4 summer 1995."
Wish San Onofre park leadership had the same vision . The nude beach was always packed with people, no lifeguard, and up from the nude beach, there would be like 15 people and several life guard chairs in summer. But while San O started with a gift from the military next door, it went to State Park not National Park leadership. Wish it were NP, then we wouldn't have to worry about this whole stupid killing of the nude beach there. Don't get me started...
There is a Friends of website

That confirms the selling of beer! It's all I remember buying when I would visit the beach, not a hot dog nude beacher myself!
