Thanks Mojave. All good advice, one thing I would add, although this isn't necessarily pertinent to every dirt road. If there is a lot of soft sand up ahead that one has spotted, DO NOT drive excessively slow through it. Don't stop- just keep moving at a safe pace so you won't get bogged down.

I always carry a shovel and strong wood planks to place under wheels in case I get stuck. And this is just one safety equipment item.

I haven't heard of any vandalism issues lately at the Freedom trailhead- anyone else heard of any -- say in the last few months?

Jobe, if you read this- do you ever worry about your Explorer? I know how well you and Mike get alongsmileys with beer
