Paul,
To be clear. The place I park at and the place the video was taken IS on S.B.National forest land. I know I previously said otherwise. (Yes you did, and I had forgotten that! I corrected my post- Paul) And I did get a ticket there for parking more than 50 feet from the road several years ago. Which I defended and won. Because the officers and my GPS said I was not in the forest. However, since then GPS has become more accurate and @ 1 and a half year ago a surveyor worked the area and put a stake @ 20 yards behind where I park. Showing the S.B.N.Forest starts/ends there. I also surveyed the area finding a U.S.G.S stake marking. Using that I calibrated and confirmed the accuracy of the stake put there and concluded it was very close to being more correct than my previous survey.
So please, if any action is taken please, call the correct agency, the S.B.N.Forest service.
If anyone wants to check this for accuracy, To find the USGS stake - continue past the Freedom trail head going east. After you get to the bottom of the gully and you get to the top of the next hill, before you start going back down hill park. A fence is on the top of the hill on the right side of the road. Where the fence has a corner where it changes direction is near where the USGS forest marker is. The forest boundaries follow an east and west direction. I sat there with my smart phone GPS and got the east west longitude. Then I went to where the stake near my parking area. It showed it was within a foot of being exactly correct. However, there is a problem . There is true north and then there is what is known as magnetic north. If you look at the old forest maps it shows there was an error on the exactness of all the measurements many years ago and this error was corrected on this latitude line so all measurements on this line are questionable.
Also, anyone wishing to make a call to the athorities, beware ! If you call the S.B. police. They will act like they want to help, give you the run around then tell you you need to call the Apple Valley police. Who will seem to care give you the run around then tell you you should call the S.B.N.Forest. Who will give you the run around, seem to care the abrubtly hang up on you. And blame your phone service. If you think these folks care, think again. This has happened many times when all I wanted was help doing their job. It is not my intent to demean any of our government workers. This is what happens in this area over and over again. I reckon it will happen again.
Happy soaking !
