Wizard, I totally agree with you on finding the quieter spots along the creek. When I hiked in from the dam back in April I could not believe how much more of nature there was to see and hear along the way. Nowadays the springs are always so crowded, not like it was just a few years ago. Back then I used to make it out midweek and I often had the springs to myself for a couple of hours. Now with Pan living there and all the other stuff that goes on it just does not have the same peaceful vibe. I will be heading up to the Wheeler Gorge campground above Ojai at the end of July, it is so peaceful up there, camping next to the streams, just hearing natural sounds. I really miss that part of Deep Creek.
It has been quite awhile since I have had a chance to hike upstream from the springs. Because the weather is so warm and the hot springs themselves are not quite as appealing as the cool stream waters I would love to explore some more peaceful areas where I could sit and enjoy the sounds of nature and still enjoy a swim in the creek. Which direction do you prefer to go to enjoy more of the natural sounds of the Deep Creek basin, upstream or down stream from the springs? Back in April I accidentally got into some Poison Oak or Poodle Brush so I want to be extra careful whenever I venture off the beaten path. Also is there any restrictions on free hiking up stream or down stream from the springs?
