I drove up to the freedom trail 23rd in my 2wd toyota pickup. Got to the parkinglot just before midnight coming from Long Beach. Of course i was the only one crazy enough to be there at such an hour. Got stuck 2 times on the way up in some ice/snow but would just reverse and gun it up the hill. Made it down to the creek around 1245 or so. Creek looked deep and cold. Tried to cross it felt how freezing the water was and i was a lil unsure of the depth so i said screw it and wait till morning! Set up camp and ate and crashed.. When I woke up around 730 the water in my camelbak was half frozen. On the beach I found a unopend tall can(score and thanks to whoever didnt wanna hike it back up, I enjouyed it!) that was a slushie still when i opend it a few hours later for luch. BUt ya by morning i could see the the water was to deep to cross at the normal spot and glad i didnt just go for it. Looked around found a sandbar and some big underwater rocks about 10ft downstream thats was about waste deep. It gose at a angle towds the crabcooker fyi. Crossed it. Man i never felt water so cold then so hot when i reached the springs. Man my lags were all tingly. Had the springs to my self for a couple of hours till around 10 on of the local guys isee everytime i come down it seems. I didnt catch his name but he dose a lot of the cement work i guess.. He crossed the stream but didnt find the path i took and had to swin part of the way. Around noon a group of 9 dudes came hiking down from the bridge trail. I was hoping for some ladies. SO ya i was starting to get hungry and i made the mistake of notbringing some food and stuff to the other side of the river so i had to cross it. But before i did i sat in the crabcooker as long as i could stand before making the cross. went to the other side ate and enjoyed my brew i found and ate lunch. wanted to go back and soak for a while but i just couldnt convince my self to cross that stream again. so i decided to hike back. What was ice and snow on my drive up was mud on the way back.... All in all it was a great lil solo mission i did.
