Wildfire Burns At Least 200 Acres Near Big Bear
A wind-driven wildfire has burned at least 200 acres in the San Bernardino National Forest, forming a cloud of heavy smoke and forcing the evacuation of two campgrounds.
A U.S. Forest Service spokeswoman says the fire was reported around 1:30 p.m. and is burning north away from mountaintop communities around Big Bear Lake.
Fire officials say the blaze is being fanned by 15-mile-per-hour winds.
The Camp Whittle and Hanna Flats campgrounds have been evacuated as a precaution.
The fire is burning near the site of an 85-acre blaze which was sparked by lightning September 1st in an area west of the lake.
The cause is under investigation.........
Looks like this fire is closer to the Big Bear area than it appeared, looking at it from down here in Apple Valley.
