No, none of that type of activity would provide any support to our cause. Problem is, many of us are younger people that have daily responsibilities to our families so we go to work each day and many of those that are impacted the most by OHV users are either retired or in a position to be able to attend the meetings about all of this. Unfortunately, the BOS meet during those times where those of us that are interested in these issues, are working. I've been to BLM and USFS stakeholder meetings before because they are frequently held in the evenings or on weekends in our local area to address local issues. Unfortunately, the BOS doesn't do much during the evening and over weekends, let alone, hold these meeting in the areas most affected. This is one of the reason I was very active in the efforts for the High Desert to split off from San Bernardino County and form a new Mojave County. I'm sure you may remember this from several years ago. Fortunately, my area is still in the county only and has not been absorbed by Hesperia YET. But that time is getting near, since we are in their Sphere of influence. I moved my family here over 20 years ago to escape the problems related to large urban areas and unfortunately am seeing that encroachment getting ever near. I've digressed from the subject here and apologize for that but am frustrated as you may be, in the lack of effort and or support from our District Supervisor regarding the OHV problem and any attempt to find and equitable solution. My hopes would be that we could find a way that we could all return to the old days, but as bad as things have gotten on both sides of the fence, I doubt that will happen
I've always been in support of responsible OHV recreation but have run up against a brick wall, as many others have, and seen so much narrow minded action by the County, in dealing with this subject. There are representatives that are hired by the various interest groups but it would seem that they are failing to represent our needs at this time. As much respect I have of Ed Waldheim, it seems to me as though he has disappeared from the scene and abandoned our cause. I don't wish to disrupt the lives of anybody when and where my friends and I ride, but unfortunately there seems to be a total lack of tolerance anymore, where quiet respectful riding to get to our open areas from home, used to be tolerated and not viewed as a nuisance. Unfortunately, those days are long gone as a result of so many people from out of the area, coming up to the High Desert to ride. Most of these people look for areas that are quick and easy to access from the freeway and major roads and that usually put them smack dab in the middle of many sparse, rural residential areas. The SBSO is still somewhat tolerant of the locale they know, when it comes to enforcement, but those from down the hill and that have recently moved to our area and then go blasting around without making any attempt to quietly ride to open areas, are causing a lot of friction between us and the still rural residents. I would like to see all of this resolved in a peaceful, respectful way that we can all live with, but I just don't see that happening anytime soon. My earlier comments were intended as a mockery to Laughing Bear Dave, since he has the tendency to put a bad spin on many efforts that are made by the responsible OHV users we have up here. If everybody I dealt with over these issues was as open minded as you seem to be, then perhaps we would make some progress and solve our problems amicably. As long as the pot keeps being stirred, I doubt we'll see any of this conclude any time soon.
