The route markers designating free public access keep dissapearing in the vicinity of the Bowen Ranch according to the BLM. Although many will chose to use the Bowen Ranch parking area, other options are available and free access to public lands must be maintained. Unfortunatly, the troll gate syndrome is alive and well with this example of attempted " double dipping" at the gate.
Free public access does exist and the turnoff is to the right just before the Bowen Ranch. Proceede past the Ranch proper about a mile and then turn left at the junction of the two dirt roads and proceed west. You will then proceed about a mile until you go over and then down a hill. Turn left (south) at the next junction and proceede until you get to an area that has ample parking space. Park at the freedom parking area at the top of the steep hill going down. You can make it this far in a regular car. If you have a 4x4 truck, you can make it down to the USFS parking area/trailhead to Deep Creek
