I like to drive in from Bowen Ranch Road. Your 4x4 should have no problem going around Bowen Ranch and parking at the Forest service trail head parking lot. Last week a stock Jeep Liberty made it with no problems.
It's best to hike in the morning to avoid the heat and stay till things cool off later in the day. Be prepaired with plenty of water, and sun screen.
Last saturday it was real hot, but nice in the shade and water.
As far as clothing optional, some do and some dont.
