Paul, not sure about Summerland but he does talk of El Matador Beach often and he does meet your description.
We were making plans for a trip to another remote hot spring and nobody had a pen and paper for phone numbers. So I've been carrying pen and paper for over two years now trying to get his information! Well, the persistance has finally paid off -- we exchanged info and he'll be making the well deserved trip with us.
