...NEAR RECORD HEAT FOR SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA THIS WEEKEND...

A RIDGE OF HIGH PRESSURE IS EXPECTED TO BUILD OVER THE SOUTHWEST FRIDAY...AND INTENSIFY INTO THE WEEKEND. THIS WILL RESULT IN NEAR RECORD HEAT IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA DURING THE WEEKEND.

HIGH TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED TO REACH THE 80S AND 90S NEAR THE COAST AND IN THE MOUNTAINS...100 TO 110 IN THE VALLEY AREAS AND NORTHERN DESERTS...AND 110 TO 115 IN THE SOUTHERN DESERTS. SOME BEACH AREAS MAY STAY COOLER WITH PATCHY LOW CLOUDS AND FOG AT TIMES. THIS LOOKS LIKE IT COULD BE AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES WELL INTO NEXT WEEK.

EVEN THOUGH OPPRESSIVE HUMIDITY IS NOT EXPECTED TO ACCOMPANY THIS HEAT WAVE...THE VERY HIGH TEMPERATURES COULD POSE A HEALTH HAZARD... SPECIALLY TO THE VERY YOUNG...THE ELDERLY...AND ANYONE OUTDOORS DURING THE HEAT OF THE DAY.

TRY TO AVOID STRENUOUS OUTDOOR ACTIVITY DURING MIDDAY. IF YOU HAVE TO BE OUTSIDE...AVOID PROLONGED EXPOSURE AND DRINK PLENTY OF FLUIDS TO AVOID DEHYDRATION. ALCOHOLIC AND CAFFEINATED BEVERAGES CAN INCREASE THE RATE OF WATER LOSS IN YOUR BODY...INCREASING THE RISK
OF HEAT EXHAUSTION OR STROKE. WEAR LIGHTWEIGHT...LIGHT-COLORED LOOSE-FITTING CLOTHING. WEAR A HAT TO SHIELD YOURSELF FROM THE SUN...AND USE A SUN SCREEN TO REDUCE POSSIBLE SUNBURN.
