...AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF WET WEATHER IS EXPECTED FOR SOUTHWESTERN
CALIFORNIA DURING THE SECOND HALF OF THE WEEK...

UPPER LEVEL LOW PRESSURE WILL DEVELOP NEAR THE WEST COAST TODAY
WITH A SERIES OF WEATHER DISTURBANCES MOVING THROUGH. THIS WILL
CAUSE AN INCREASING CHANCE OF SHOWERS TUESDAY AFTERNOON...BECOMING
LIKELY WEDNESDAY. A GOOD CHANCE OF RAIN WILL CONTINUE THROUGH
SATURDAY.

PRELIMINARY RAINFALL ESTIMATES FOR THIS EXTENDED PERIOD OF WET
WEATHER ARE FOR ABOUT 1 TO 3 INCHES WEST OF THE MOUNTAINS 3 TO 6
INCHES IN THE MOUNTAINS AND AROUND AN INCH OR MORE IN THE DESERT.
THE LARGEST RAINFALL ACCUMULATIONS WILL BE ON THE SOUTHWEST FACING
MOUNTAIN SLOPES. SHOWERS COULD BE HEAVY AT TIMES AS SUBTROPICAL
MOISTURE FLOWS INTO THIS SYSTEM. IT CURRENTLY LOOKS LIKE THE BEST
CHANCE OF HEAVY SHOWERS WILL BE WEDNESDAY AND AGAIN LATE THURSDAY
INTO FRIDAY.

THE SNOW LEVEL WILL START ABOVE 8000 FEET BUT WILL LOWER TO NEAR
6000 FEET BY FRIDAY. THERE COULD EVENTUALLY BE LARGE SNOW
ACCUMULATIONS OF 1 TO 2 FEET ON THE HIGHER MOUNTAINS. THERE WILL
ALSO BE LOCAL GUSTY WINDS AND DENSE FOG AT TIMES...MAINLY IN THE
MOUNTAINS.

IF THE RAIN DEVELOPS AS EXPECTED THEN THERE COULD BE LOCAL FLOODING
OF POORLY DRAINED LOW LYING AREAS...CREEKS AND STREAMS. ROCK AND MUD
SLIDES WILL BE POSSIBLE...MAINLY IN STEEP TERRAIN AND IN AND BELOW
RECENTLY BURNED AREAS.

PEOPLE IN AREAS SUSCEPTIBLE TO FLOODING OR PLANNING TRAVEL THROUGH
THE MOUNTAINS DURING THE SECOND HALF OF NEXT WEEK SHOULD CHECK
PREPAREDNESS AND STAY INFORMED ON THIS DEVELOPING WET WEATHER
PATTERN.
