A few years back, the USFS designated people to watch over Cougar Hot Springs in Oregon. There was a person educating visitors about the no camping rules and directing people to areas close by where camping was acceptable.Although this individual had no authority,he did have the option of calling the ranger if things were out of hand.Cougar Hot Springs had the same issues as Deep Creek compounded by easy road access and a short trail. It seemed to be working well at the time.I havent been there in 10 years so I dont know whats happening now.I do believe that working with the ranger will produce positive results. Most people will jump on the cleanup bus if it is the socialy acceptable thing to do.The education idea is great!Of course, there will always be a bonehead in the crowd but a little peer pressure mixed with kindness usually does the trick.Keep up the great work everybody!Good things are happening here.
