Well, when I first moved to CA in 1999, I drove out to a secluded beach in the afternoon to Santa Cruz and was walking along the shore talking on my cell phone at the time when I got a taste of how unpredictable the afternoon tides can be. One came in and knocked me out. Lost phone in the salt water and dropped to my knees to prevent being swept in. There was a man walking with his wife/girlfriend who ran over and tried to pull me back as well. I was fully clothed. The drive home was a bit wet but at least was able to go to work the next day.
