Mojave, you are sounding more like Katrina every day ;-) I still don't understand what legal authority allows the BLM to put Mike C in a law enforcement role? In the old days of the wild west, private citizens were "deputized" as necessary. But this isn't a present day reality, is it?by Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
When I worked on the California Desert Conservation Plan for the BLM back in the early 1980's, ACEC's were established to protect KNOWN resources. So for somone to say their are no resources in that ACEC is absurd. We need to keep in mind that resources need not be just cultural. They can be biological and socioeconmic as well.by Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Right on, Wizard! I just wish that BLM would try to stop some of this illegal OHV activity .by Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Are these people effective? Any in the Juniper Flats area? http://www.sbnfa.org/ohv.htmby Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Hi Wizard, Laughing Bear's description pretty much matches the mulitude of forum discussions regarding the behavior of the the Bowen Ranch gatekeeper. I'm not takin' sides, only pointing out the similarities ;-)by Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Legal accuracy is an oxymoron. All law is subject to interpretation.by Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Laughing Bear wrote <One local motorcycle rider was reported to be boasting he will ride wherever he wants to and carries a gun with him "in case of any trouble".> This fellow is clearly prepared to "deal" with anyone who objects to his lawlessness. Careful out there! Hmmm, this description is strikingly familiar (anyone else get my drift ;-)by Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I suggest that DCV work with the USFS on appropriate placement and type of signs. We don't need to cover the area with lots of signs. Maybe one or two properly placed and designed signs would do the trick.by Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Hey Wiz, Great shots! In the caption for Picture "K" on page 50, you spelled "column" "collum". This was pointed out to me by my son who is a spelling ace!! You must have been thinking about "Gollum" ;-)by Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Here's the link to the interesting article about the hiker who died -so tragic. http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-zeman7feb07,1,1995930.storyby Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
No problem, Rick I understand. I'll post links from now on, although I'm not sure if everyone can see the article via the link if they don't have a login for the particular newspaper. For example, I login to the LA Times, and that's how I got that article.by Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Laughingbear said " Paramedics were doing CPR all the way on the lifeless woman." Thank God the woman was not "lifeless".by Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Good luck getting any responsive action from the Enforcement Team. I sincerely hope they can be more effective.by Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Not bad Rick, that's a pretty decent layout. Is that your creation or does it have that layout as a basic defaultby Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
My apolgies, Rick, you already did it! I just never clicked on the spring name..very awesome!by Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Thanks Rick. looks real good -the link pages would be a great idea.. linking to spring location via topozone.com or TIGER Census maps would be neat too, but probably take a lot of time..by Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Nice Work Rick -looks good. If I get some additional time, I've got several more named springs that I can get to you. I may also possibly have names for some of the unnmamed ones.Did you use the NGDC Master list? If not, what other source? If you prefer, you can answer me offline at deepcreeksoaker@yahby Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I hope that a lot of the traffic you saw on Bowen Ranch Road was not going to the springs. I'd hate to see any problems so close to getting the Forest Order approved to open up the springs.by Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
As I mentioned in another topic, the Forest Leadership meeting is today. Hopefully the Forest Order re-opening the springs will be approved shortly.by Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

Greetings all, I just got this E-mail from Gina Thompson regarding the closure: Date: Mon, 5 Jan 2004 13:36:49 -0800 Thanks Paul, happy New Year to you! I called Ken Harp today to see if he was back from vacation for an update on the forest order. He does not appear to be back yet. Ken is the person who prepares the forest order for the Forest Supervisor to approve. I will let you know aby Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

Since Gina Thompson is returning from vacation Monday, January 5th, I encourage all of you to E-mail Gina on Monday and request the status of the Forest Service orders for re-opening the Deep Creek area.by Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Miguel, Deep Creek Volunteers and others have been working very closely with the USFS on the re-opening of Deep Creek. Right now, we must all exercise patience. Appropriate USFS staff are still on their Christmas vacations. They will be returning after January 5th, and that is when we expect the decision will be made to re-open. Again, please be patient -I encourage you and others not to visitby Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Thank you Katrina- interesting website, especially the guestbook comments. I saw your entry there as well.by Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I'd love to read that book Katrina! Is it published yet, if so what's the title and who's the author?by Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Thanks for the Little Caliente report Sam. I actually look forward to the ranger closing the gate to Little Caliente. It really keeps the crowds away and allows the springs to restore to pristine condition. We usually bike in. It's a great ride -as you know some ups and downs, but only about 5 miles. I'll be hittin' it soon after this coming rainstorm!by Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Katrina, does Bruce Von Faulstich live in the Village?by Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
