I like the quote by Linda Hansen, and hope that such a committment shows itself soon.
I was disturbed to hear a suggestion recently (this is hearsay so I will not attribute it to the rumored speaker) that there really are no cultural values to protect within the ACEC (Area of Critical Environmental Concern...this is where trail J1299 runs).
If anyone is spreading this, please be advised that it is completely untrue. I did extensive research into the former native inhabitants of this region and have examined the results of archaeological studies done within the ACEC. There is significant cultural value there, and I regard the area as sacred. I don't care who rides the trail armed, and will be armed with a camera myself whenever I monitor activities there.
OHV scofflaws will eventually be dealt with. Despite my frustration in dealing with the BLM, I do believe that the committment attributed to Linda Hansen above will eventually show itself. Just because people have gotten away with violating the law in years past does not mean that they will always do so!
I will stand up for the protection of the ACEC from all motorized vehicle use. BLM lands are for "multiple use" and not only for OHV destruction. Important cultural sites should not be subjected to such vandalism!
