I know many of you would like to have seen us have a name already. I assure you all, I also would like this resolved but don't want to alienate anyone in the process. I see there is still a group that feels quite strongly about using Volunteer in the name, while another group is for the use of Alliance instead and yet another gruop for United Soakers. I also think that I am seeing a greater consensus of support towards accepting whatever name we ultimately choose.
While some would like to change or quicken the process, others are really content with the system used so far. I don't see how switching to mail voting or secret voting would change anything. To the contrary I feel that staying the course will help us all to deal with the disagreements that will exist within the group and find ways to deal with them by trying to each concensus. It will also hopefully help us all to accept other people's opinion and maybe modify our own. I feel that it is important that we keep this process democratic and transparent.
However I would suggest that in an effort to reach a simple mayority sooner we also start to look at the percentages if we only count everyone's first choice. If we were to do so the following would be the tally:
Deep Creek Hot Springs Volunteers (5 votes) 36%
Deep Creek Volunteers (3 votes) 21%
United Soakers (3 votes) 21%
Deep Creek Hot Springs Alliance (2 votes) 14%
Deep Creek Alliance (1 vote) 7%
What I am proposing is that whatever name on whatever system reaches 50% we declare it the winner. If two different names achieve 50% on the same round, one with either system, then the 1st., 2nd., 3rd. sytem would rule as we have been with this system from the begining. Also we would be using that system to decide which name is eliminated. My only reason for proposing this is to end the process sooner. I am also shortening the time frame to confirm or change your votes. What do you all think?
In the worst case scenario as we will eliminate at a minimum one name each time we can only have two more rounds after this.
