ARCADIA, Calif., September 16, 2016 – The draft environmental analysis (EA) for the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument Plan and Land Management Plan Amendment have been completed and are available for public comment. Public meetings seeking comments on the plan are being held in citys adjacent to the Monument.

These meetings are designed to answer questions and provide additional information. Meetings include a formal presentation followed by breakout groups. Meeting locations and times are as followed:

  • September 14, 3 - 8 pm, Pico House, 430 N Main St. Los Angeles, CA
  • September 15, 4 - 8 pm, The Centre, 20880 Centre Pointe Pkwy Santa Clarita, CA
  • September 17, 10am - 2 pm, Angeles National Forest Headquarter, 701 N. Santa Anita Ave Arcadia, CA
  • October 4, 3:30-7:30 pm, Big Pines Lodge, Angeles Crest Highway (HWY 2) Wrightwood, CA
The EA presents the environmental consequences of two alternatives analyzed in detail, including no action. The comment period allows the public an opportunity to make their concerns known prior to a final decision.

The project area is located in the San Gabriel Mountain Range, approximately 30 miles northeast of Los Angeles, covering 346,177 acres of land. The Forest Service proposes to change some existing management to be consistent with the Presidential Proclamation establishing the monument. A decision whether to amend the Forest Plan, as proposed, or to make adjustments is based on environmental analysis and public comment.
