Asked my husband to help me re-record a version with the actual names of
people and places, dedicated to the DCHS community.
I know that when people love a place passionately, it is important that writers
get things accurately. In my novel-in-progress that starts in the town of Mojave
in 1886, my local reviewer was my harshest critic, about getting everything
correct as to the geography and the ways of the Native people there.
Next week I will call the attorneys for the horse thief Francis Pusok and
see whether he will grant me permission to use his actual name. It is
actually funnier to have a bandit named Francis, as well as a horse
named Dusty.
