I knew who he was. He was a hippy in his soul and a fun guy to be around except when he was too drunk.
Back in the early 90's when I was learning about the politics of the area I partyed with him. I told him if he got his high school diploma or GED I would help him get into my union. He used to claim he was working on that. Right ?
I remember his father coming from New Mexico looking for him. It was one of those weekends that was too pretty to forget. Him and all of those children were a sight to see. They sang beautifully on the hills above the springs.
This is what I remember ...
Mike Castro and David Boyer his friend used to take Mike's boat out into the ocean. Mike invited me and Shawn to go with them. Micha and David told me stories about going out on his boat and said I should go with them too. So we made a date and were excited about going fishing.
I build sky scrapers for a living. At that time I was in between jobs and spending a lot of time on the Bowen ranch. Some people who knew Mike and were calling him names like murderer and thief, those were the nice ones. I did not give them much attention. Mike seemed to be a normal guy to me. The weekend of our date I was called into work and could not go on my date with Castro.
No one has seen or heard of Shawn since.
David Boyer is a BLM or Forest service ranger in Arizona I heard. Erick Hindricks and Michelle Hart were planning on going too. Mike said some one has to watch the store but he could go if he can find some one to do that. We know where Mikey is...
It was a time of transition in the area. Different groups were jockeying for the title of the ranch from Fred Moss it's owner.
Castro's plan worked and others fell by the way side. I can see now that he threatened, intimidated and scared many persons through the law enforcement agencies.
When I came back to the ranch from working David Boyer was there. I asked him how it went ? He started to tell me a story about some thing he said I should NOT be talking to any body about. I was all ears then Castro showed up. He and David had a private meeting. Then Mike asked me to never talk about that trip to them again, EVER !
Since then Castro has threatened, intimidated, Code Enforced and tried to have me arrested.
So, Go figure ?
