...A COLD WINTER STORM WILL ARRIVE FRIDAY...

A COLD PACIFIC WINTER STORM WILL BRING COLD WEATHER FRIDAY ALONG
WITH RAIN...MOUNTAIN SNOW...AND STRONG WINDS IN THE
MOUNTAINS...DESERTS...AND COASTAL WATERS.

A STORM OVER NORTHERN CALIFORNIA WILL MOVE INTO SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA
FRIDAY. A DEEPENING MARINE LAYER MAY PRODUCE A FEW LIGHT SHOWERS
LATE TONIGHT AND EARLY FRIDAY. MORE CONSISTENT PRECIPITATION WILL
MOVE THROUGH THE REGION FRIDAY AFTERNOON. SHOWERS WILL TAPER OFF
FRIDAY NIGHT.

RAINFALL AMOUNTS WILL RANGE FROM A QUARTER TO A HALF INCH IN THE
COASTAL BASIN...UP TO 1 INCH ON THE COASTAL MOUNTAIN SLOPES...AND
LESS THAN ONE TENTH INCH IN THE DESERTS. SNOW LEVELS WILL START AT
AROUND 5500 FEET FRIDAY...AND LOWER TO 4500 FEET FRIDAY NIGHT. SNOW
ACCUMULATIONS UP TO 3 OR 4 INCHES ARE POSSIBLE.

THIS STORM WILL ALSO BRING STRONG GUSTY WINDS FRIDAY. SOUTHWEST
WINDS AHEAD OF THE COLD FRONT WILL INCREASE TO 15 TO 25 MPH IN THE
COASTAL AREAS. WINDS IN THE MOUNTAINS AND DESERTS WILL INCREASE TO
20 TO 30 MPH WITH GUSTS OF 45 MPH AT TIMES. THIS WILL MAKE TRAVEL
HAZARDOUS IN THE MOUNTAINS AND DESERTS. STRONG WINDS ARE ALSO
EXPECTED OVER THE COASTAL WATERS.

THOSE PLANNING TO VISIT THE MOUNTAINS SHOULD STAY INFORMED ON THIS
WINTER STORM AND TAKE EXTRA PRECAUTIONS. THIS WEATHER COULD BE
DEADLY FOR UNPREPARED CAMPERS OR HIKERS IN THE MOUNTAINS. TRAVEL
COULD BECOME DIFFICULT ON THE HIGHEST MOUNTAIN HIGHWAYS.
