Lightning strikes touched off approximately 20 brush fires in local mountain areas, including a 26-acre fire in inaccessible terrain that began burning at 1:20 p.m., five miles north of Lake Arrowhead, on Saturday. Three helicopters, one air tanker, nine engines and two hand crews from the U.S. Forest Service battled the blaze, dubbed the Deep Fire for its proximity to the Deep Creek hot springs. USFS spokesman John Miller said the flames’ forward spread was halted by 5 p.m.
