As they've done in many forest areas, especially Los Padres National Forest, all USFS , firefighting, law enforcement and emergency personnel will have keys to the gates. It's extremely unlikely that Caltrans will remove the State Highway designation. This would be a lengthy, onerous process requiring an extensive route inventory analysis and relinquishment/deletion evaluation. A legislative sponsor would also be needed to support the process of statutorily deleting the route from the State Highway System. And more importantly, currently Caltrans must maintain the road. USFS and others DO NOT want to take over the costly maintenance.
