I wonder if it was the same bunch of cattle that I ran into a few weeks back. I met them on my way back the Bowen ranch parking lot. Thew were on the Bowen ranch side of the forest service parking lot. Thankfully they were not feeling agressive that day. They had stopped moving when they saw me and we had a kind of stare down, eventually they went on their way and left me alone. Not sure what I could have done if they had started to come at me, there are not a lot of things to climb or hide behind on the trail. This could get dangerous, it will only be a matter of time before someone is going to get stomped or head butted by an agressive cow or bull.

Does anyone have suggestions how to handle a confrontation with range cattle? That is, should you hold your ground and make eye contact with them or is it best to look away and make a slow retreat if possible? I am worried that on some of the narrow parts of the trail to the springs that our options are limited.
