The fire plume seen in the photo is about 24 miles away. I have a real good pair of 10x50 binoculars and you could really see well the huge size of the flames when the fire hit that ridge top. Amazing that this fire spread so fast, and so intensly, since the elevation of the area it is burning is about 6,500 feet. I was talking to some locals who said they only got 40 percent of normal snowfall this year. There is hardly any snow on the local high peaks.
