A lot depends on the city. Home prices are relatively stable in San Diego and are expected to remain so as long as homeowners are working. On the down side, the number of San Diego County homes in some level of foreclosure activity reached 1,150 last month. That's up 20 percent from January 2006 and up more than 240 percent from the first month of 2005.We have some of the highest housing costs in the nation. Last month, the median sale price for a home in San Diego County was 5.6 percent lower -- nearly $30,000 -- than the $500,000 price lin January 2006. Young folks straight out of college entering the workforce can't afford to buy a house or even a condo. So they either end up staying here and paying exorbitant rents, or they move to other places with cheaper housing and decent employment opportunities.
