Scientific America (http://images.spinics.net/aw/B00005QDWG) has an interesting article this month. Some engineers are proposing using superconducting cables that not only move electricity but liquid hydogen as well. The liquid hydrogen keeps the superconductor cold and also transports the hydrogen to market.
