I went hiking along Deep Creek, and stopped by DCHS in the afternoon on Saturday, two weekends ago. It was very hot that day. My hike into the canyon at around 10:30 AM was already seeing hot temps. It was great down on the creek, stopping at spots along the way for refreshing dips, and I stayed mostly in the shade from about 12PM till 4PM, just too dang hot to be out in that summer sun for long. I was sitting on some smooth granite in a shaded area around the middle of the day, and the rocks were hot, even with no sun on them, yikes! Good thing I made like a Deep Creek Manatee all day long, thats the way to do it, when things get smokin down there :-) The Weather Channel is currently forcasting thunderstorms for this coming Saturday, thats always fun to experience while spending time at DCHS, and, its DCV day at the springs too. So maybe I'll see some of ya down there on Saturday, and we can go dippin, do some chattin, and clean up the place too! Bring plenty of water, or you can bring a plastic container, with some sort of closed handle on it you can tie a little rope to, fill it at the Crab Cooker copper pipe, then tie it off to a bush or tree, throw it in the creek and cool it off. A lot easier than bringing down a bunch of heavy water! That water source has been tested, is clean, and I have used it for years with no problems at all. Also best not to try hiking out until the sun is REAL low in the sky, the helicopter rescue pilots need a break on Saturday :-)
