I just found out that Deep Creek is included in a bill before the U. S. Senate which would designate Deep Creek as a "wild and scenic" River. We need to find out how this will or may affect our continued use of the hotsprings.
I have been advised that unless the hotsprings is designated as recreational that our continued use of the area may be under threat. This is so important to Deep Creek Hot Springs. I would suggest that you call Barbara Boxer's office, write her a letter and question her regarding how this may affect the future use of Deep Creek Hot Springs. The U. S. Forest Service would also be involved and maybe the U. S. Fish and Wildlife.
I will contact Barbara Boxer's office and these agencies to receive answers. I would suggest that others do the same. Under the empowerment link on the front page are direct email, links, phone numbers and addresses for these individuals and agencies.
One of the most important issues in this regard will become the fact that there are no toilet facilities down there, that people are not using proper methods to dispose of their waste, this waste does end up in Deep Creek, this is something that we need to address by assisting people to understand how to dispose of their waste properly.
Many beaches have been closed in the past for the same conditions. On the new flyer consider educating the public on proper waste disposal.
The link below is to the place where Deep Creek is written about in the
Senate Bill. Please read about Deep Creek. It is alphabetical. I encourage you to find out about the affect of this bill and express your opinions.
