" Back in the day....you would have to pay a toll to Bowen Ranch ".... I have been hiking to the area around the springs since 1984. There has in that time always been a toll charge to park there. I read the stories told by ( if I remember correctly ) the wife of the original owners of the Bowen Property, Gertie Bowen about their time in buying and living in the area in very simple conditions, tents and hauling water from a nearby spring ( which is just on the west side of the current most southern parking spots ). I think its discussed in that book that the Bowen's first started charging for access across their land to fishermen and hikers who wanted to more easily get to Deep Creek by that route. In the years since then till now, various public routes around and near the ranch got closed due to different property issues, or other reasons, depending on your info
