A global cataclysmic event would significantly reduce the population prior to hydrocarbon depletion, making waves of migration a less likely event.
The points made regarding the failure of the 60's communities and the need for lifeboat communities are well stated. We saw the warning signs, but as a generation we chose the easy life. This one may not have a choice.
