I'd also suggest getting an attorney.by Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Quotejobe I have just been informed that at 8:30am tomorrow at the courthouse in Barstow, Deptment B2. A hearing will be held to get a restraining order to protect Brent Gaddes from Mike Castro owner of Bowen ranch. Wow! Joe please keep us posted if you hear anything more about how the hearing went. Regarding the crazy guy at the springs, is he camping down there? I'll talk to my Rangerby Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Joe, thanks for posting...that sounds lie a real bad situation. I hope the truth comes out. As you know, Mike carries a firearm on him almost all the time when he is out and about. You know his history as well as anyone. I really hope more info will come forward and I'd like to see the official police report. If you find out anything more, please let us know!by Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
NudstRalph, thanks for the link to the updated website. I would like to suggest adding the link below to Deep Creek Volunteers. Regardless of whether some people get along with Mike C. or not, it's important to provide an alternative access location to the hot springs. Please let us know if you can add this website, or at a minimum, mention the alternative campground. https://www.deepcreekhotsby Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Unfortunately, motorized access to Big Caliente Hot Springs and Little Caliente Hot Springs is still closed. They can only be accessed by a very long hike, mountain bike ride, or by horse.by Paul P. - California Hot Springs
I don't have any sympathy for these people. Obviously they were not sufficiently prepared for the hike or hot temperatures. Probably ran out of water real quick. I've said it many times before- in most situations like this, hikers should be billed for the cost of their rescue.by Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Quoteharley97 I didn't realize this was a contest about who had explored more. Sorry I was trying to be helpful and give out some information that had not been shared here yet. No harm, no foul. That's just Jobe being Jobe!by Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
QuoteSam D. Does it mean that the road to Big and Little Caliente HS will be fixed after years of closures? Sam, my understanding that improvements to the dirt road down the backside of the mountain range are a separate project from the El Camino Cielo job. One might assume that when the construction of El Camino Cielo is complete, that people would be allowed to head down the road to the spriby Paul P. - California Hot Springs
I didn't know Keough Hot Ditch was closed. I knew there was a death there a couple of years ago and I believe someone also got the dreaded Nagleri Fowleri there. I've soaked there many, many times.by Paul P. - California Hot Springs
Rick, I’m only speculating, because half the time no one knows what Joe is talking about, but perhaps it’s Chinese Communist Party.by Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Quotepeciousaitiff I always try to pack out every thing I pack in. But on Friday I left behind a blue and Gray hammock, between the two trees across the creek from the pools. I can’t go back to get it for awhile (and I’m assuming it has been thrown away or taken by someone else already) but I do want to apologize to this group for my error. I feel disgusted by myself, not just because the hamby Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I would much rather see a video of the owners picking up trash and removing graffiti. In the video I noted the bearded dude is only an "investor" not the owner. The video really doesn't serve any purpose. With that being said, the new campground does offer an alternative access point so people don't have to deal with Mike (Jobe's favorite person LOL!!)by Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Quotejobe I got to the Deep Creek campground just after 11 o'clock. Joe, I assume you meant the "new" Deep Creek Campground next to Bowen Ranch? I'm surprised you didn't park at your usual location at the Freedom Trailhead parking area.by Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Thanks for the update- an interesting perspective. It would be interesting to find out what the visitor split is between Bowen Ranch and the new campground. I imagine the Bowen Ranch owner is pissed about the campground reducing his revenue source.by Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Quotepeciousaitiff As for parking, I've been going to the new Campground parking lot near Mike @ Bowen... it's a little sketchy, but I like that it's closer to the trailhead, Can you be a bit more specific on why you found the new Campground parking lot "sketchy".by Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
He probably was drinking or doing drugs- and coupling that with the typical source pool water temp around 115 to 117, that's way too hot and very dangerous. People are not supposed to soak in the source pool anyway, but since the other pools are drained, that's probably why he soaked there.by Paul P. - California Hot Springs
That will be great if it works!by Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
The good news is...Nagleria Fowleri is easily avoidable, Covid-19 is not. I'm still amazed at all the people that don't wear masks and still have social gatherings with non-household members. Almost 50% of the Covid cases are people 20-49 years old.by Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
And there is still no access to Big Caliente and Little Caliente Hot Springs.by Paul P. - California Hot Springs
Your post clearly illustrates the big differences between going to springs on a weekday vs a weekend. Your Thursday trip appeared to be delightful. Your Saturday trip...not so much. Moral of the story- don't go to Deep Creek on a weekend! I stopped my weekend visits to Deep Creek about 10 years ago!!by Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
To be clear, the one way hike down to the springs is 1.75 miles with about an 800 foot elevation drop. The round trip is 3.5 miles.by Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Quoteneogeo Um, Paul P., do you go to Deep Creek anymore? 420 Beach, Get Naked Beach, it's been years of solid DCHS tradition at this point! Yes I go there quite a bit...but I've never heard it called that, probably because I tend to go at times when very few people do, and I tend not to socialize much when there.by Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Thanks Wizard! !by Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Quotepeciousaitiff I had never walked over to 420 / GET NAKED beach before, so I did that journey. When you get a chance, please let us all know where 420/GET NAKED beach is located. Never heard of it...by Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
QuoteWizard Isn't the San Bernardino National Forest area closed, as well as the other national forest in California? DCHS is in the SBNF. Wizard you are correct. The SBNF is closed, and that includes Deep Creek. It's irresponsible of the owners of the new campground to let people access Deep Creek. Because SBNF personnel are super busy with other bigger issues, enforcement of the closure and aby Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Yes, people still go on hot days. Suggestion: Go during a weekday, and arrive early before the heat sets in. Then stay at the springs all day and hike out when it cools off a bit. I wouldn't recommend Bradford Ridge- too much sun exposure. A better alternative to Bowen Ranch is the new access point campground. Pass Bowen Ranch entrance for a short distance and turn left at the sign. More info onby Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Hey Jobe, I just wanted to let you know that I changed part of your post. You said "textile" camping, but I'm pretty sure you meant to say "textile-free" camping! Glad to help! And Jay, I don't believe it would be an issue to continue to hike nude to the springs from the new access point at the new campground. Like you, I've often driven nude all the way from Roundup Road tby Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

Zeus I tend to agree. I have been going to Deep Creek for many, many years. It was a lot better pre-Internet.by Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
With 3463 positive cases and new cases trending up over time, my personal opinion is its too early to open things back up. Wait until the curve goes down and there is a consistent decrease in cases. That's not happening yet!by Paul P. - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
