Allen, I couldn't aggree with you more. From by observations, it's a mixed bag but most are looking for a legal ridnig oppertunity. Unfortunatly, the bad actors leave a lasting impression, both on the ground and in peoples memories. Internet discussions will do little to resolve the problems. We need to continue to educate the public about RESPONSIBLE RECREATIONby LaughingBear - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Paul, this issue is directly affecting DCHS. Irresponsible OHV use is becoming increasingly frequent within the Deep Creek Non Mororized vehicle area. Despite being surrounded with legal OHV oppertunities, illegal motorized intrusion is causing damage in sensitive areas of steep erosive terrain. Responsible recreation is the soultion to the problem however, many OHV users are resisting embrasby LaughingBear - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
The water level in my well is holding up just fine Romy. At the hotsprings, the water is wet! There is a variety of hot and cool. The creek level is dropping I hear but there are some deep pools to swim in. Go and enjoy. Make sure you report back what the level is. After all the feuding (something mountain people seem to do well), some of us may want to go skinny dipping in Deep Creek.by LaughingBear - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
"Big Ed's" facade is thinly veiled and very transparent in my opinion. Why else would one bother to spend two years of ones life attacking proponants of RESPONSIBLE RECREATION on the internet? "Big Ed's" words say one thing...and his actions say another.by LaughingBear - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
It's very hard to read the intent of an unidentifiable rider who accelerates his vehicle at a pedestrian. An act of violence is an act of violence whether the intent is to run someone over, or spay them with dirt. These guys are engaging in terroristic behavior designed to strike fear into the minds of their victims. Eco terrorsim has taken on a new meaning as these radical extremist OHV ridby LaughingBear - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Local residents and property owners across San Bernardino County have been reporting an increase in incidents involving irresponsible OHV users. The Sheriff's department is now maintaining a data base of both reports and actual contacts. The occurance of violent acts by illegal off-roaders on residents and property owners is not exclusive to my area by any means and the data bears witness to thby LaughingBear - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

I believe everyone familiar with this area is aware of the escalating destruction caused by illegal OHV use on both public and private lands. Anyone who comes to this area sees it with their own eyes. As one drives into the area, one passes through the devastation zone near the old Paradise Ranch in lower Arrastra canyon. Out of view from the road and to the east, the destruction escalates frby LaughingBear - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
The facts remain that San Bernardino County is maintaining a data base on OHV trespass and disturbance. It is by no means a complete assessment of all incidents, just those observed by or reported to Code Enforcement and the Sheriff's office. Many many more incidents of OHV trespass and route non compliance go un reported as the perpetrators are long gone by the time the property owner arrives.by LaughingBear - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Ah yes, now I get it. If someone does not "shut up" about illegal and irresponsible OHV use, the personal attacks from "Big Ed" will continue. Posting ones property often does not work very well. I took some pictures of the vandalized fence next to the chain gate posted "No Trespassing" at the entrance to the old Paradise ranch. Included in the photo of the vandby LaughingBear - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Dan, I happen to know one of those retired LE Rangers who dedicated many years of his life as a public servant enforcing the law on public lands. If he says there's a big problem, I believe him. I have eyes and ears AND, I have lived and owned property next to BLM land for almost 3 decades. We see it on a daily basis out here My experience as a land owner and desert resident trumps your littleby LaughingBear - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
There are many responsible OHV users out there. We dont notice them as much but in the years I have been volunteering with the BLM, I have learned to notice them as well. I have spoken with many who are out looking for a legal place to ride and not bother anyone. There are OHV advocacy groups who are attempting to get the message of responsible recreation out to thier members. Groups like CORVAby LaughingBear - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Which charity do you prefer Dan? Would you like the donation in your name to go to the Center for Biological Diversity or the Rangers for Responsible Recreation? Since Dan claims to support responsible OHV use, I think i will send the check to the Rangers for Responsible Recreation. Who knows better about what is happening than the educated professionals who spend their lives and carreers dediby LaughingBear - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Allen, I believe your apology to be sincere and I take you for your word but, I have to tell you I was paid a visit late Friday afternoon while I was taking my wife out to dinner on a date. My neighbor witnessed a lone MC rider (i will keep the description confidential) accessing the neighborhood via a public road and then abruptly turning onto my land and ripping a virgin trail across it andby LaughingBear - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Hot dang, we're up to 67 posts on this thread. How do we improve off-road compliance? Ordinance 3973 is a good start. Illegal OHV riders trespassing on private property without written permission from the owner can be cited and fined under the law. It's called OHV operator accountability to know where one chooses to ride. It's so simple even a caveman can do it!by LaughingBear - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I believe there is a locked gate somewhere along the road to Squints. One can always hike in on the PCT from the T6 crossing.by LaughingBear - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
During a field trip in the Arrastra Canyon area recently with Roxie Trost (Barstow BLM field office manager),we viewed extensive damage from WEMO route non-compliance and discussed possible solutions to the ongoing problem. She stated she wants to try a peer group education effort involving the OHV community. Give her a call if you know ANYONE who may be interested. From my understanding, this is to be an education project. Enforcement will be left to the professionals. So far, no off-roaders have stepped forward as far as I know.by LaughingBear - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Here is something that can be done. The Barstow BLM Field office is looking to put together a volunteer OHV rider group to educate errant riders in limited use areas where riding off designated routes is prohibited. If you know anyone who can help with this project please contact Roxie Trost at the Barstow Field office. Allen, Thank you for the apology. My family was greatly disturbed by the event. Threats against my safety and well being started when I stood up and voiced concern about extensive illegal trail proliferation in this area during the WEMO route designation process and I have endured harrassment and threats every since. I take each and every one seriously. I hope you are just as serious abouby LaughingBear - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
As an off-roader, I support this ordinance as it will not change my outdoor activities whatsoever. The question being raised here is how to increase compliance and that is the crux of the biscut that we all need to sink our teeth into. Groups like the Blue Ribbion Coalition have long advocated their members to engage in responsible use and thats a positive thing. But education is not really gby LaughingBear - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
NO Al, your behavior is abusive. How can someone tust someone who has consistantly lied about his identity while making threats to be trustworthy and forthcoming. The intent of your threats was to promote fear for my safety and well being in my own home. Take a good look in the mirror pal. Would YOU accept this sort of behavior? What kind of excuse can you come up with to justify this. Woulby LaughingBear - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Try explaining the threats and intimidation Al. How about posting directions on the internet and threating to pay me a little visit? Comments like "If I ever make a "little visit", you wont know I'm there. I'm quite a bit more trained than you are, so I doubt you would want to challenge me" I got news for you Al, you are part of the problem, not the solution. NOW you waby LaughingBear - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Ah...so thats it Big Al wants people to keep their mouths shut. Fine example of a criminal thug you are Al. I am sure the Blue Ribbon Coalition will be using you as a poster boy for thier responsible use campaign.by LaughingBear - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Now tell us again Al, what is your excuse for menacing and threating behavior? I believe your own words verify the thread title.by LaughingBear - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

Well folks....."Allen" does have quite the history. Over on the DUSA board, he published mapquest directions to where he believes my residence is in Juniper Flats and threatened to "come to the Juniper Flats area pay you a visit" (2/15/07) Threats designed to intimidate as retaliation for speaking up against OHV trespass on private properties and illegal OHV abuse of publicby LaughingBear - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Responsible recreation is the answer. Hesperia has a solution that is working. "ride where you like, lose your bike" Thanks Katrina for the sharing the article.by LaughingBear - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Yea, they have a lawyer who is issuing press releases spreading fear that the OHV open areas are in danger. Truth be known, we like the OHV areas like Johnson Valley and El Mirage and wish more riders would use them. It's the big empty out there on most days while the Juniper Flats area is getting hammered.by LaughingBear - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Please join us and protect our quiet rural neighborhoods from large scale uncontroled OHV staging. This ordinance does not prevent families from recreating on thier own property in a peaceful and respectful way in groups of 10 or less without a permit. It does require a permit for gatherings of 10 or more OHVs and this ordinance also protects private property owners from OHV trespass by requby LaughingBear - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
