Yes, fences were installed and the roads were closed. An expensive restoration effort was completed on the old road. A parking lot was built for hiking access.
Ignoring this, agressive and non-compliant OHV riders created a new route to Cottonwood Springs even though they already had a legal direct connecting route to Bowen Ranch Rd. and the Power Line Rd. Why? They prefer the steep and fragile terrain and the scenic values that everyone else must hike in to enjoy. The approved route was too "tame".
In the short time it has been in existance, this trail is heavily rutted. The area around the springs and cultural area is now being subjected to new route proliferation off the proposed open route.
You know what else? WEMO makes no distinction between single track and double track vehicles in opening these routes. So expect 4X4's into this area next.
Are we supposed to stand by and say nothing?
