SAN BERNARDINO — An activist known for his colorful public appearances dressed as a clown has launched a recall effort against several county elected officials.
The Registrar of Votersrecently approved the recall effort, enabling E.T. Snell, 61, of Apple Valley, to begin collecting 75,498 signatures by November.
Since January, Snell has sought to recall County Assessor Bill Postmus, District Attorney Michael Ramos and Hesperia Councilman Tad Honeycutt.
Also mentioned in the recall is 1st District Supervisor Brad Mitzelfelt, though he is not eligible to be recalled, having been elected in June. An elected official must be in office for six months to be recalled.
“My main concern is the corruption,” said Snell, a retired real estate salesman and business owner living on disability in the Deep Creek area of Apple Valley. For nearly 20 years, he’s been putting his energy toward political activism, often using unconventional methods to garner attention for his causes.
“I’ve been showing up to political meetings in clown costumes since the 1990s,” he said.....
