I believe the area is restricted to shotguns only according to some maps I have seen. I am not sure if these regulations apply to private property though. I do know that responsible gun owners will always use a hill for a backdrop when target practicing, being very cautious not to endanger unsuspecting hikers. It is very common to encounter people target shooting in the Juniper Flats/Bowen Ranch Road area on weekends. As for us local landowners, we usually hit what we are aiming at as our practice ranges are in the back yard.
