Unfortunately, "death by GPS" is more and more common. Many people of the younger generation put absolute blind faith in technology, and sometimes that can have disastrous consequences. They need to realize that GPS is only one tool in the arsensal of finding your way. In my humble opinion, its far better to have a good up to date hard copy map or atlas of the area where you will be traveling to. The Benchmark Series of map books are excellent. Available for most States, with detailed maps of specific areas. Many Benchmark maps even show hot springs! Topographic maps are also essential. Together, hard copy maps and prudent, slighly skeptical use of a GPS device will keep a lot of people out of trouble.
