A long time ago a hydrolgist/geologist told me our area was highly fractured with faults. This explains why the quartz deposits containing gold in the matrix look tantalizing....only to pinch away to nothing once explored. Old Mr Bowen and his friend, a man named Miller were mining partners long ago. There are historical accounts that mercury poisoning contributed to Mr Bowen's demise. Mercury was used in the extraction process. I do remember when someone found a case of old dynamite buried out by the old shed at the Bowen Ranch! Another partial case was found in an old dump site in Juniper Flats. The Sheriff's dept bomb squad exploded the later find right in the hole where it was found!
