As usual there are many misconceptions about this area, especially from your point of view.
First of all there is a metal bridge that the P.C.T uses that is @ 1 mile downstream from the hot springs. Let's not confuse things. Also it is Hook creek rd. not Hook rd. And there is a concrete bridge know as the T-6 crossing when you make a right at the fork in the road you mentioned.
Secondly, the pavilion you mentioned is not the splinters cabin. Locals called it that because of the out house that used to be there had wooden toilet seats. Also, @3-4 years ago the forest service replaced them with new toilets.
If you have google earth you can clearly see the airport and splinters cabin. They are down Ash meadows road or you can use Squint's ranch road to get there in a 4x4 vehicle. Or if you continue past Jensen market on 173 @ 4 more miles to where the pine trees stop you can look past the fence and see all of that construction I mentioned earlier and the Splints cabin. While you are out there it is @ 3 more miles to the Bradford ridge trail head.
