No Bowen allows camping again - both at the old prices - 5/day, 10/night stays.by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
PP, that's the old road down to the back parking area at Bowen. Now no longer owned by Bowen. They entered the Ranch, paid for parking, made their way to where the road turns and it used to be all washed out and confronted that truck and the new fencing - the old main parking area now the property of the new "campground." Bowen lets people park before the road turns down to the old parkby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
These are red herrings. I am not of course trying to make the point that the springs should be kept off the internet. This forum would have to go away if that were the case, many learn about the springs here. I learned much about the springs here back in the day. After first learning about the springs in Lee Baxandall's nude guide when I was a teenager. And then in general travel guide books to Sby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Jobe, I know how much you do and have done for the springs. I can't claim to do 1/10th as much, but I not only clean the springs myself each time I go, I have organized at this point a bunch of group cleans of the springs or have been part of organizing them, and have tried to be a link to some younger generations of springers who are coming up and caring for the place. That is all good that therby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
"Open Soon for Overnight Camping, Large Groups, Equestrian Groups, & Special Events Welcome!" Oh boy. I don't think the link should be publicized. Which is the point of the website being a bad idea. It is capitalizing off the springs for a private business that may impact the springs and not care for them.by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Bowen Ranch informed me last year that the new owner was going to put up a website, advertise staying and camping at the springs, and that has happened. Website is up. I don't want to post the link here, don't want to publicize it in that way. You can find it googling some combo of dchs and campground etc. They provide a map to hot springs but also to the warm springs on this website, and photos,by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
great report jobe thanks !by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Phoenix/Arizona Pool is definitely underwater, this past weekend.by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Not good. A shame as well for a historical property, the Ranch, to break itself up. I remember when you taught me, Wizard, about the cold spring oasis down below the parking area of the Ranch. This was the main water source for the Ranch back in the day I think. It seems part of the parcel now sold off to new ownership.by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Must be beautiful Wizard. From where I live, when I hike up the local trails to the high points, I can see past the local ranges to the San Gabriels as far as Mt. Baldy in the distance, and seeing them all covered with white yesterday was beautiful.by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
So yeah, I did make a visit to the Victor Valley humane society, to visit with their dogs. I may be needing to come back real soon, as I didn't leave with any of them but one of them won't get out of my mind. So I didn't have too much time for a long springs visit with these shorter days but did visit. (It was awesome, super relaxing day, almost no trash though a friend did a small clean up, aby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I don't though I saw men working on the side of his property before you reach the house coming from Bowen Ranch Road from the city. I hope to get out there within the week and see what is changing. Been preoccupied with some family health situations, and starting to look for a new dog - thinking though of maybe visiting the Victor Valley APL, so that would get me out there too !by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
That's a good article, lots more information and puts it in perspective for sure as you have been doing Wizard. I thought it odd to see this on the mainstream national news - I saw it on CNN first. I am remembering being on a trip six years ago this week, I was in Copenhagen, Denmark for the first time. And walking around town with my wife. And it started to get windy. And I thought, maybeby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

I saw that big group too paulespo and asked one of them online directly if with a group that big - did they volunteer at all, did they clean the place. At least online, they assured me that they did.by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
As anyone who spends time cleaning the hot springs pools like Jobe will know - algae is always present at DC and grows a lot in the spring pools if not cleaned out regularly. This bloom downstream from the main pools in the creek is large this year, the water there shallower now, and warmer as Wizard says. Toxic? It is filled with life, tadpoles and fish and etc.by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Thanks Wizard - I've been wondering about how bought this land as I noticed the For Sale signs were gone some time ago, and saw it was listed as sold when I looked it up on real estate websites. If only I had a million bucks. The Mojave Desert Land Trust group has a good and active Instagram account where they post their activities and preservation projects, I had not seen a post about this yet hby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I definitely wouldn't recognize Jobe if he were wearing shorts. No way.by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
A friend was at the hot springs this week and measured the temps of the hot spring pools. I was really surprised by how hot they were, even if part of that is summer sun on the water when the temps were recorded. Here's what he recorded: Contemplation - 97.8 Crab Cooker - 115.7 Serenity - 107.4 Creekside sandbagged pool - 98 Womb - 108.5 (!) 40K = 40 King the name of the copter? Also these stories almost always name Deep Creek Hot Springs as the site of the catastrophe, but they almost never are. Deep Creek Road? This must be near the dam? Can someone decode the location for me. About a month ago, June 15, on a day the naturist groups were visiting the springs again, a serious incident did happen with a sick hiker at the springs.by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

Of course things were posted to the Social Media that related to Jobe's post, even a photo of Jobe on Facebook - from what I saw there, it seemed there was at least one wedding at the springs with this group.by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Thanks Jobe - - - - I was wondering about the holiday weekend at the springs, and what might happen with the earthquakes this past weekend too. Sounds like one for the books, even for you -by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Interesting page. I think you took the path down into Family Canyon, instead of the slightly easier option of the ridge line itself. Maybe give the two options - I've done it both ways and don't choose the Family Canyon way anymore. More sketch, more steep on an already steep trail.by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
A ten mile cloud of ladybugs showed up on weather radar last night. The story says "over San Diego," but the radar footage of the ladybug cloud in the story tracks the epicenter of the cloud RIGHT OVER DEEP CREEK HOT SPRINGS. About four years ago? When the pool was "reborn," like a Phoenix. And of course Phoenix has its relation to Arizona. The pool was named after a guy named Arizona who people did not want to remember anymore as he was acting with hostility to many, from what I remember.by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I found some really great photographs of you Jobe from this recent visit I expect. Or maybe a few days earlier. On Instagram. https://www.instagram.com/p/BxkxCV1HJW7/by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
But how do you limit access as the springs are near an area that increasingly has urbanized? With Mike partially closed (at night) people are just heading toward the Freedom Trail, and lots coming in on Bradford now. Less oversight is not the answer, for sure. You kinda hear things like that all the time - and lots of different possibilities announced to folks coming through the Ranch. The responsible thing beside the endless volunteering of so many on this Forum, and now increasing numbers of younger people - is for the SBNF to manage the area in a more productive manner.
