Thanks for the report Jobe !!by Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I did a google search " bowen escapades copy " and top of the page a person said they had a copy of the book. The date of the entry was May 25, 2008, apparently posted at this forum, deepcreekhotsprings.net , there was a man named Bill who used to be a member of our group from years ago, Deep Creek Volunteers, and he had a copy I think, but he may have passed away by now. You might alby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Ralph is asking about the title of his post, Bradford Ridge Trail.by Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Job you wrote " Then went down stream and climbed out. I suspect they climbed out from the Indian camp area ", as you know the Indian Camp is upstream from DCHS. Maybe you meant they went upstream, not downstream.by Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I just talked to Jobe and he is alive and well. He was at the springs I think he said last week and he and some others carried a lot of trash out, and he told me he was going to do a trip report about his time there in a bit.by Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I tried calling Jobe a while ago and he did not return my call. He usually gets back to me. I will try and call him this weekend. Maybe Katrina might know what he is up to as he viisits her at times. Also he did have a Face Book page " Rodney Joseph Baucum ". I don't know if he has posted anything recently.by Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I have never heard of Piru Creek. Checked it out on Bing Maps. It really winds around a lot. Here is the link to that campground I mentioned next to the Bowen Ranch: http://www.deepcreekhotspringscampground.com/by Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I have heard of other reports of vandalism at the Bradford Ridge Trail Head Parking spot. Really no way of predicting who is going to come along to do that kind of thing. A friend has been parking at the new campground spot on the west side of the Bowen Ranch. I would think its one of the safest places to park and not worry about the safety of your vehicle while you are hiking to DCHS.by Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Hike upstream or downstream and find your own place to enjoy. Deep Creek is more than just DCHSby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
You walk around behind the big rocks to get to that beach area. You will pass the Contemplation Pool along the way. Start on the south side where you crossed the creek.by Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
There has been no rain for a while so I would think crossing the creek would be OK. There may be snow going the Bradford Ridge way on HWY 173.by Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Hike in using the Bradford Ridge Trail from HWY 173 and you won't have to cross Deep Creek. Directions are at the DCV Website link below on this page.by Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I was talking to Jobe today and he mentioned that there is snow in the area around the Bowen Ranch today. I could see earlier that the snow level was pretty low looking across the valley toward Phelan from our place in Apple Valley, maybe down to around 4,000 feet at that time. Just a while ago there was lightning, thunder and hail here where we live.by Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Our daughter hiked to DCHS this last weekend with friends using the Bradford Ridge Trail from HWY 173. She said there was not a lot of people down there. Someone did buy the land on the west side of the Bowen Ranch and is getting it improved for usage. It was open for a while, then closed for a time because of the virus situation but it may be open again. They have a website, here is the link, hby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I just found this on a Face Book page ( U.S. Forest Service - San Bernardino National Forest ), posted 14 hours ago. U.S. Forest Service - San Bernardino National Forest 14h It’s time to make the announcement many of you have been waiting for. When will the Forest reopen? The answer is today! But… there will be some prohibitions, as fire danger remains present. - Camping is onlyby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
You appear to not have noticed this at the SBNF link you listed. DCHS is in the SBNF. If the springs is really closed because of the Forest Order then to me it should be put in the spot where they list DCHS as " open " to make it clear as to the actual status. At a Glance Current Conditions: The Forest is temporarily closed to all public use due to the threat from high fire danger.by Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
You could google something like " are the California National Forest open yet ", or " is the San Bernardino National Forest open ".by Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Its an area upstream from DCHS a couple hundred yards, maybe a little more. The creek bed has lots of solid granite there and deeper pools. It is easily seen off of the trail just a ways before you get to the Mofo Hill split, as your hiking in. In recent years people have created a 420 symbol out of river rocks on one of the beachs there which was also visible from the Bowen trail. Folks mostly aby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Isn't the San Bernardino National Forest area closed, as well as the other national forest in California? DCHS is in the SBNF.by Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Neogeo, miss ya too! If you are ever up this way drop by for a visit, or a hike in the desert mountains near our home which are BLM lands with no fire danger. I was out hiking in the Fair View Mountains today. Pleasant weather, windy, and the smoky conditions got a bit better in the afternoon. Saw some Hawks and Ravens. Last week in the same area I came across a South Western Speckled Rattler, thby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
As of today the SBNF as well as other California national forest are closed due to extreme fire danger. There is a major push of cooler, dryer air coming down from the north and a moderate to strong Santa Ana wind event will be happening from around now through Wednesday. This afternoon I was looking at the visible satellite images in the western coastal states and these reverse strong winds areby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Today is expected to be the hottest day in this heatwave.Death Valley set a new daily record yesterday at 125. You are right about this kind of heat being dangerous. The most hot part of the day is around 1-4 PM. When its this hot your body heats up no matter what amount of water you drink. You could drink all you could take but still die from the heat. Once you get into heat exhaustion it can beby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I was hiking in lower Deep Creek today, upstream a ways from the Mojave Forks dam. It was hot going in around mid morning, then when I arrived at a spot by the creek the clouds quickly grew and covered the sky. There was rain, winds and lots of thunder ( also saw some flashes of lightning ) then in late afternoon the storms moved off to the west. I saw on the weather channel that Forest Falls gotby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Its a sad situation, DCHS is such a beautiful place. I wonder how much damage is being done to the bushes and trees around the springs? People cut things down for various reasons. One day many years ago this guy cut down three Sycamore trees because he was mad at his girlfriend!by Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Mr Crossup, I just did a search on Face Book for " Hippie Dave ", and in the results he was at the top. He is the one with his arms held out at the sides and long hair. He is in my Face Book friends list so I don't know if that is why you can't find him. The pics he posted show amounts of people and tents that I have never seen before. I have seen similar reports of great amounts of peoby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
We were at Deep Creek yesterday, not at DCHS. A couple came exploring along and said they had been at the springs a while before and thought there may have been about 150 people there. Look on Face Book, " Hippie Dave ", he posted a set of pics today, I think taken yesterday at DCHS. Way too many people, tents everywhere.by Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
A long time DCHS regular told me the trash situation was really bad down at the spring. Understandable with all the crowds. I was recently down in the lower part of Deep Creek near the Mohave Forks dam and near the end of Deep Creek Rd there on the weekends its overrun with people and ORV's. A friend and Deep Creek long time visitor who lives on Deep Creek Rd said recently the amount of people reby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
