Anatranik, the "new parking campground" _is_ the old parking campground - I know, its confusing. The new campground took over 1/2 of Bowen Ranch's old area, the parking and camping area of BR is now the parking camping area of the new "business" next door. Yes, a woman in her early 40s died yesterday of heat exhaustion hiking in Malibu Creek state park, in the Santa Monica mountains. After that, they closed the Santa Monica mountain park trails. Today they closed all the nearby National Forests, including SBNF - so Deep Creek is officially closed to all access due to extreme fire danger with the heat. The notice was sent by a local resident and people reposted it - asking for public comment on the Campsite proposal, with liquor sales and store. The email addresses on the poster seem to be defunct for most people, and whatever email were sent have not been acknowledged. It is obviously not worth responding to this. Jobe in the other current post is more or less local to the springs. Those he found down at the springs are more or less local to the springs. Don't go to the hot springs until the social distancing order is lifted. Only if you are local to the hot springs would that be OK - don't drive to far away communities during this moment even to hike in the wilderness. And if you are hiking in Deep Creek as an area, what are the chances that the hot springs will be possible to visit and keep social distancing in place? PP, that's the old road down to the back parking area at Bowen. Now no longer owned by Bowen. They entered the Ranch, paid for parking, made their way to where the road turns and it used to be all washed out and confronted that truck and the new fencing - the old main parking area now the property of the new "campground." These are red herrings. I am not of course trying to make the point that the springs should be kept off the internet. This forum would have to go away if that were the case, many learn about the springs here. I learned much about the springs here back in the day. Jobe, I know how much you do and have done for the springs. I can't claim to do 1/10th as much, but I not only clean the springs myself each time I go, I have organized at this point a bunch of group cleans of the springs or have been part of organizing them, and have tried to be a link to some younger generations of springers who are coming up and caring for the place. Bowen Ranch informed me last year that the new owner was going to put up a website, advertise staying and camping at the springs, and that has happened. Website is up. I don't want to post the link here, don't want to publicize it in that way. Not good. A shame as well for a historical property, the Ranch, to break itself up. I remember when you taught me, Wizard, about the cold spring oasis down below the parking area of the Ranch. Must be beautiful Wizard. From where I live, when I hike up the local trails to the high points, I can see past the local ranges to the San Gabriels as far as Mt. So yeah, I did make a visit to the Victor Valley humane society, to visit with their dogs. I may be needing to come back real soon, as I didn't leave with any of them but one of them won't get out of my mind. So I didn't have too much time for a long springs visit with these shorter days but did visit. I don't though I saw men working on the side of his property before you reach the house coming from Bowen Ranch Road from the city. I hope to get out there within the week and see what is changing.
