On that note, probably best to close out this thread with the following statement, shared by many ... QuoteWizard I have always gone to the springs with a peaceful spirit. I have always done my best to do things to help DCHS and I've done a lot. It is a place I have enjoyed very much with my family and kids and a big part of the fun is visiting with the many good people I have met down there.by mohave - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

That snake does look somewhat alien. At first I thought you got really close to that head, but then I checked the Exif data on the image and looks like it was taken from 3.03 meters away using an optical zoom. A few additional ones from this afternoon. Just passed by the hot springs this afternoon. Textile percentage ... 110%. Couldn't sleep tonight so played around with Google Earth Pro (it will set you back $400). A few extra features over the free version and 4 times the DPI. You can also make narrated automation, simulations (for example, I could make a movie of sunrise and sunset shadowing for a given date and time range) and comes with precise measurement tools, so slowly catching up to ESRI software for you GISby mohave - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
A small youtube compilation about Black's. I like the first one most. As per Paul's comments, the cliffs are dangerous, as the last two illustrate. If you do go, feel free to post a trip report! http://www.blacksbeachforum.com/index.php?threads/blacks-beach-videos.8/by mohave - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Is this the one? There is no electronic version available and it's out of print. If you can get a copy, I'd keep it! http://books.google.com/books/about/Bowen_Escapades.html?id=z166HAAACAAJby mohave - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Wow, great background information and post, thank you! I've never been to Burning Man, but some of my techie friends have been pressuring to come out and take their vacations around the event. Sounds entertaining and fun in a Mad Maxish sort of way. I'm sitting outside east of LA and just got a flash flood warning for the area a few minutes ago. At least it will cool things off, although the sky does look heavy overhead.by mohave - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
And who was katrina island? There seemed to be a lot debate about land ownership, at one point Mike assuming her identity (assuming she) to post threads. Anyhow, it seems she was heavily involved in the area as well.by mohave - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Was referring to Wizard's comment about bipolar and AZ Mike's past posts on the forum ... not sure about his status in real life, never met him.by mohave - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Yes, it was evident something was not right from the tone of the posts. Some of them very abrupt and confusing, although also evident he cared about the place, maybe overly so if he was on the verge of physical altercations with visitors. I have to admit though that some of the threads were somewhat entertaining, although probably disturbing for everyone else at the time. I noticed some of the surfers and visitors do tend to take one of steep trail down, past the link fence. It does look somewhat dangerous. The glider pilots are not immune, with accidents and loss of life as well resulting from the cliffs. I guess every place has dangers ... Yellowstone, Yosemite, Grand Canyon with some incidents being reported each year. Speaking of Grand Canyon, got an idea.by mohave - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
QuotePaul P.In reality, only a handful of students go there. Virtually everyone I've met there is either working, or old, or unemployed!!! Definitely need to recruit an organic cookie greeter girl (or to be fair, couple) to attract a more diverse crowd. That's true I did find many more students at Wreck. Interesting comparison though. I guess if you want to use it el naturalle, take a flight up to Vancouver and head to Wreck's beach next to the University of British Columbia*. The regulars have even set up beach furniture. Throughout the city, pot is smoked openly and personal use is tolerated by the police ... just don't bring alcohol, as you will be cited and not by the local cops, but by the RCMP, the Canadian federal policby mohave - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Sounds like a good time to head back to the springs with cooler weather. Up until two years ago, I was heavily into sailing, almost every weekend on the SF Bay. Attended an event put on by US Sailing and a staff member from NOAA was one of the presenters. Very impressed by what he had to say, definitely a great use of federal tax funds and they do such a great job in the content and informatioby mohave - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I have a few hours to spare so might as well. I'm actually on an aircraft now 30,000 ft up with nothing better to do ... thank heavens for wifi onboard and being able to VPN. Should put up a plaque next to the pools that describes the history! But then again it may get buried in a flood. Anyhow, here it is. Thank you, makes sense. Speaking of the Anniversary Pool, according to this blog it was constructed in 1993 ... so they met at the springs in 1973. Are "they" still around? 2013 would be the 20th anniversary of the Anniversary pool, or is it now the Wizard pool? http://blog.beckycockrum.com/blog/2009/03/09/deep-creek-hot-springs/by mohave - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
What follows is a statement, personal opinion and mini rant. As someone who works in our (broken) healthcare industry and working very hard along with many others on trying to undo the mess we are in (not to mention that we are arguably the only civilized country that doesn't offer consistent quality healthcare to its citizens and worse, profits from it), I find it interesting that some "legby mohave - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

Jigokudani is obviously a well known attraction in Japan, but the photos in this blog are deceiving.
