In the photo Paulespo posted the algae seen is at the downstream end of the big creek pool that all the hot water flows pour into. One hot summer day I got a temp of over 90 degrees, surface temp, out in the middle of that big pool. This year after the big 7.1 earthquake various regulars have cited that the flow and temps of the hot water sources have both increased so this would warm up the bigby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I did recently read an article about a dog getting poisoned and died after swimming in a Texas lake with toxic algae in it. I have also read that the fresh water reports of toxic algae are basically from around the Rockies, then on back east, and down toward the south eastern states. There have been a lot reports, especially this year of toxic algae blooms in ocean areas like Florida and along thby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

I have noticed in previous earthquakes that the flows, as well as the hot/warm water temps have increased at various Deep Creek hot/warm water areas. Over time this effect lessens as I think the system gets more constrained. Since this earthquake was over 7 the effect was increased compared to smaller quakes. 40K did sound a bit expensive for a helicopter ride Ralph sent me that video of the guy getting CPR from Ron. A long time ago I used to be an EMT and as long as they were working on him I guessed he did not make it. Regarding this recent incident, maybe it was down somewhere along the area of the PCT just upstream from the Mohave Forks dam where the terrain on both sides of the trail is very steby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I see in a comment to this article a woman writes " Thank you! SBCSD 40K. We couldn't make it without you. ". Is that what they charge now to the people rescued? If so thank goodness I have never needed a " ride " outby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
As I think you know already Paulespo, the hike upstream from the Mojave Forks Dam features lots of graffiti. Its an unfortunate sight for people like myself going that way when I do. As Paul mentioned, thanks so much for your efforts. I recently was working on some graffiti removal myself and it appeared it was made of Titatium, because it was that resistant to anything I did to try and remove itby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

Love the photos of DCHS! Jobe is in one of his favorite places for sure as " seen " in the pics I was down there yesterday with my daughter. It was a busy day, lots of folks. Saw the big rock by the beach with all the graffiti, and all the rest of it up the trail, sad to see :-( Because of the warmer temps apparently the snow was melting up higher and the creek rose a bit by late afterby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

I long time DCHS friend just informed me last week that Deep Creek has just recently been designated as a wild and scenic river. Maybe there will be increased protection associated with this change in status.by Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I had the same word in my mind for me as yours Neogeo, " horrible ". I have been going to Deep Creek and DCHS for 35 years, and I am thankful for all of the wonderful experiences. Its just so sad that there are people that disgrace this amazing sanctuary in this way.by Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
In Jobe's trip report from yesterday, 4-11, he found that one of the vehicles parked at the Freedom trail had a broken window. This has been a problem there for many years. Something to consider if you are parking there.by Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
You can try this link. Use the cursor to move the map around. It is working for me. https://caltopo.com/map.html#ll=34.3546,-117.17386&z=16&b=t&o=f16a%2Cr&n=1,0.25&a=sma It should start showing the area around the Bowen Ranch. I think the white zones are private property, the red is BLM and the green is USFS. Move the map a little ways south east from the Bowen Ranch aby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Jobe has told me that the USFS Forestry boundary runs east/west right about through the middle of that parking area. I know years ago the USFS used to require an adventure pass for parking on those lands. The other side of the boundary is BLM and as far as I know you can park for 14 days in one place in those lands. The Freedom Trail parking area has had various sorts of vandalism to vehicles oveby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California

The forecast is calling for rain Sat and Sun. Depending on how much rain falls the creek could be rising again. This storm appears warmer so it generally means more run off with a higher snow level. That flood did help with the itch problem, for a while, but it came back, I know from being affected myself, and from hearing the stories of others getting it. It is a natural organism that causes this, irritating the pours which for some people cause like an allergic reaction, kind of like small mosquito bites. So now we will always remember this as the great Valentines Day flood of 2019! A couple of hours ago we drove on Bear Valley Rd across the bridge over the Mohave River and it was huge flowing from side to side. Looking south towards the dam direction it looked like the Mississippi! The last huge flood at DCHS was in the 2011/2012 winter and it went even higher than this one. I saw on the news this evening that Running Springs got 7.26 inches of rain out of this storm. I also saw some photos posted on face book by some local people showing the Mohave River flowing the most out of any storm this winter season. With that much rain falling at higher elevations the Deep Creek area of drainage is getting a whole lot of runoff, and even melting the snow from the last storm.by Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
That cement and rock wall you found Paulespo going upstream is part of an old aqueduct system that supplied eastern Hesperia with water from Deep Creek. You can follow the remnants of it around a quarter mile or less upstream to the point where water was directed into from the stream. Right by the end the aqueduct it goes through a little tunnel to get through/under a cliff area, then it comes ouby Wizard - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
