That is horrible. Really the worst I've seen out there. The swastika has been there before - it was erased from a rock not long ago.by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Hi all. I was at the springs with Wizard and Jobe and MANY others on Saturday for the big naturist day. I was sitting on the beach near Jobe and chatting about how I had heard that a week ago, a hiker had found another bone, seemed like a leg bone, along the creek just upstream from the springs. I didn't know more about it - But while we were talking about it, suddenly this guy comes over and heby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
You can cross the creek. It was still quite flowing, and high - on the shallow sand bar that most use to cross, it is still there after the floods but it is not really shallow yet and the creek comes up to your waist or higher. Most heft their packs over their heads and do it as quick as possible. There will be shrinkage. There will be mega shrinkage. I mean, it might disappear. The water was jusby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
And people still want to camp down there or out there. Legally at Freedom or elsewhere, illegally down at the creek. Judging by what I've seen down there now that the weather is not quite as cold as the month of Feb. So if they can't park overnight at Bowen, I assume they will be going to Freedom. Eventually there will be problems.by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Glad to see it was reported to authorities. The LA Times piece gets the day/time wrong - it was in the afternoon on Friday, not "Saturday," that the skull was found. I had left the springs before 4pm that day, so it was also found earlier than "4:15pm."by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Yes it is open. With much added fencing. And 10$ per person entry now. And entry only for daylight hours, no camping, no overnight stays.by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Wizard you are seeing things! haha no - this thread is new today, but two days ago I posted about the skull and it is a few threads down the list now ... "The Ides of March" since Friday was March 15.by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
See my post from two days ago. I was there Friday when the skull was found. Why do you say it was found by the warm springs? I didn't realize the guy had hiked that far upstream, what he said to me was that he was just walking upstream, I assumed toward 420 beach.by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
But here is a photograph of the skull that was found on Instagram. https://www.instagram.com/p/BvDaYH1AfHv/by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Hey I thought I would see a post from Jobe on this - we shared the day Friday at the springs together with a lot of familiar faces. It was a great day, though still winter at the springs. Sun was shining, tho it was cool if not cold and the green and the bloom just starting to think about appearing, but not stepping out into the world just yet. The creek is super fast and high still, and the Arizby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I remember arriving for my first visit in .... spring 2005? and there being a rope set up. That was the last winter where we had as much rain as this one, I believe. I looked at the roaring creek. I looked over at the heads sticking up out of the Serenity Pool and the Womb. I asked a young woman who had hiked down at the same time as me..."Do you know if there is any way to cross, like on aby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Friend who took the videos went back on Sunday hoping for snow. Shared his photos with me. Updates: Waters were receding, but the creek still rushing and fast and deep. Some idiots had already come down on Saturday after the big floods, and left Coors beer cans all around the Womb pool and Anniversary, for when my friend arrived early Sunday morning (there was no one but the cans at that pointby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
It says "anyone with the link can view" - here let me try to post the link itself https://photos.app.goo.gl/pY8q52fCMmCYa4wW6by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I'll admit I have no idea. I'll look into making them freely viewable, which is what I thought I was doing.by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
OK so I asked our friend if I could post his videos. I think this will work, I uploaded them to a dummy gmail account and made an album of Paulespo's and our other friend's day at the springs, for those who want to see the flood waters yesterday. Flood Video Albumby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Wow! I didn't realize you guys had to take an alternate route out. You must both be exhausted. I have some of our friend's videos of the day on my computer now. I wonder if I can figure out how to post one or two of them here... I could tell from looking at them that at first the Woodsy sign was ok, and the tree was not down ... and then it was down, and the sign looked like it was about tby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I'll be waiting on Paulespo's report on his visit yesterday, with another friend of ours. But having seen some of their images and videos and heard a bit already - it was a big flood day like you are expecting Wizard, like 2010 or 2005 from my recent memory of the place. The springs were all "gone" under - all of it from what they are reporting, and the Woodsy the Owl sign is potentiallby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I'm in. (Clean up) The floods brought the sandy beach. I guess they can take it away too...by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Very grateful for the goo-off work on that rock. And the report on the floods!by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Yes, this one hurts.by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Awesome report and on the graffiti clean up also: awesome. I've never had that conversation with Chuck, nor heard that.by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I often go on Boxing Day. Always the signs that many do go to the springs for the day of xmas itself.by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Hi Paul ... damn. I really did have the most peaceful calm day there. I did also really clean the place thoroughly. By the time I left, by around 3pm, most had hiked out. There was only one guy looking for "healing" in the serenity pool, and a couple that was really nice and respectful, and maybe one other person. I took everything I could find - the Anniversary pool was clean of everytby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I was just at the springs. Passed Jobe hiking out as I was hiking in and he let me know what seemed obvious - i would be the only one there. But with the rains and the desert still wet all around, the biggest thing I noticed...aside from the coyote carcass on the Bowen Ranch road as I drove in, or the spreading problem with urban graffiti even a swastika out there on a rock...was how ripped up thby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Thank you as always Wizard. Yes, I have the right vehicle and purposefully so, to avoid having to use the Ranch. Have been wanting to explore the Juniper Flats area generally.by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Try this P. Let me know if it works for you. Its a pretty big file, 125 MB. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1bi4TWepSK4bskhcx7DhGYRBFIoVlRrj2/view?usp=sharingby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
It's a big change. I will miss sleeping in my car or tent at Bowen Ranch if this change is permanent. Getting to hit the springs 2 days in a row was always the best.by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
I'm on it Paul. Will post again when I have a link to share the pdf.by neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
Thanks for this report here P, but thanks even more for all that work you did. It's discouraging to have to pack up trash each time, and to see so much camping. I was looking on social media over the weekend and it just seemed a mess of campers all around the springs. That always brings trash, never mind the overuse. But it does seem that people who care like yourself keep packing out things on aby neogeo - Deep Creek Hot Springs, Apple Valley, California
